Commercial Aircraft Trash Compaction
System
Model 3210/3220 (Variable Frequency)
The Model 3210 compactor is
a fixed-based unit that remains in a galley compartment
at all times in flight. Trash items are brought from the
passenger cabin to the galley and compactor.
Various collection methods used by airlines include bringing
the items by hand, tray, or by using a small plastic trash
bag that will fit through the compactor trash door opening.
The trash door load opening is approximately 8.5
(216 mm) x 8.5 (216 mm).
This compactors method of collection is conducive
to those airlines who choose to collect trash items from
passengers by hand versus allowing a waste trolley to
be moved down the aisles.
The compactor trash door is generally left open when the
unit is not compacting. This makes it convenient for inflight
personnel to load the compactor with items from the passenger
cabin or from the galley environment during meal preparation.
Installation and Certification
Type Certification: Certification for a new aircraft program
(i.e., when the compactor is installed by Buyers
airframe manufacturer) will be handled by Seller through
a Type Certificate. Seller will work with Buyers
airframe manufacture to achieve this certification requirement,
including flammability testing.
Retrofit: If required, Seller will apply for, and receive,
a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for each of Buyers
aircraft types (B747s, A340s, and B777s).
Galley Provisioning
Seller will provide Buyers galley manufacturer with
a provisioning data package that would include interface
drawings. The galley manufacturer would incorporate these
provisioning requirements (i.e., 113.4 kg or 250 pounds
weight requirement for Double-Box (full size) or 170 pounds
Single-Box (half size), electrical power and connector
and required 5-amp galley circuit breaker) on galley drawings.
There are approximately 3,000 Monogram trash compactors
that are currently flying in service worldwide, with millions
of miles inflight service experience.
